2013
Happy New Year everyone! I'm in the process of updating my website, so a new site is around the corner, and with it, a renewed sense of responsibility and diligence. I haven't been updated in years so it kind of feels like I have a second apartment that I never use, never clean, and forget is open to the public. Apologies to people who check my site hoping to learn what I'm up to.
I have a series of exhibitions/performances coming up in British Columbia this month. I will be installing at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria soon. The show is a group show called Traces, featuring my work alongside the wonderful Ed Pien and Alison Norlen. The opening is January 18th. Details here.
I will then begin a series of performances in Victoria at Intrepid Theatre's Winter Lab. Details here.
I will then proceed to the PUSH festival where I will be performing for the third year in a row. I will be presenting Winnipeg Babysitter on January 26th. Details here.

DANIEL AT NUIT BLANCHE
I'll be presenting a new performance in the 8 facade windows of the Drake Hotel (Toronto) tonight. I've employed 8 performance assistants for this. It's a pretty ambitious and totally insane 25 minute narrative titled, "Staring into Broken Light Bulbs". Simultaneously, the public opening of the Winnipeg Now exhibition at the Winnipeg Art Gallery will take place. This is also a Nuit Blanche event. Both events will run all night, or until I completely dissolve into a puddle of fatigue. Toronto details here. And Winnipeg details here.

SEPTEMBER
I performed last week at International House in Philadelphia. This has become a kind of annual gig and I really love it. Special thanks again to Herbie, Robert, Jesse and Jesse for bringing me back again.
This Saturday, September the 22 I will be presenting WINNIPEG BABYSITTER at Plug In ICA in Winnipeg. This is presented in conjunction with MY WINNIPEG PROJECT. Details here.
Then at the WAG, a few nights later, I will present my latest "registered projection", The Thief of Mirrors, along with a new series of pastel drawings. Details here.
On the same night (September 29), I will present my brand new performance, "Staring into Broken Light Bulbs", in Toronto. This is a 30-minute, 9-channel projection piece on the facade of the Drake hotel. It's my homage to Hitchcock's Rear Window. Details here.

DANIEL IN FRIEZE MAGAZINE, APRIL 2011
There's a nice review of my solo exhibition at Jessica Bradley Art + Projects in the latest issue of Frieze by Rose Bouthillier.
DOCUMENTATION OF MONTREAL INSTALLATION
I have posted documentation of the installation of 2 registered projections, titled Learning to Breathe Underwater and House on Fire, at the Musée d’Art Contemporain’s Sobey 2010 exhibition. "Learning to Breathe Underwater" is a composited, and projected image of a prince having sex with a mermaid on a canopy bed. It is made using 3 video projections and 5 overhead projections. The drapery of the canopy bed is projected through dishes of water animated by fans. The viewer uses an aluminum “slipping slide” fastened to an overhead projector to activate the act of intercourse between the prince and mermaid.
"House on Fire" uses 3 overhead projectors to create the image of a large box of Kleenex tissue. A large mechanized pinwheel suspended over one of the projectors provides a never-ending billow of tissue rising from the box. There are 10 cardboard-mounted slides piled next to another projector. Each features a 2-frame, “lenticular” animation of a pattern, which is animated only when the viewer drags it across the surface of the projector. See it here.
